7th of May 2019 – A reminder of the on-going war in eastern Ukraine
On our way to Kramatorsk and the two orphanages there we got reminded of the on-going war in the region.
The Kramatorsk area was the centre for a long time of the war but was now liberated by the Ukrainian armed forces. We passed some military transports and some police control sites but foremost we passed ruined residential quarters and buildings
and countless fences, plank and walls covered with bullet holes. Even the roads and small bridges were often in bad condition. We also saw the presence of international aid organisations such as the Red Cross and the UN organisation OSCE. Due to the many provocative actions, shooting and killing we decided to stay in the green zone ie hopefully non-violent zoon. It was very sad to witness this low-intense provocative war in the backyard of Europe.
