On Saturday, 22 June 2024, twelve members of the Sydney community were honoured with the prestigious Sovereign Knighthood of the Sovereign Hospitaller Order of St John of Jerusalem, Knights of Malta. With grace and humility, six men and six women were solemnly invested as Knights and Dames in a ceremony led by the Grand Prior of Australia and New Zealand, H.E. Chevalier Dr. Samiul Sorrenti GCSJ OAM SSIt. FRACS.
The Investiture Ceremony took place at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Concord, a setting befitting the historical and spiritual significance of the occasion. Following the solemn ceremony, the new Knights and Dames were warmly welcomed by existing members, family, and friends at the Investiture Ball, held at the elegant Curzon Hall in Marsfield. This joyous celebration was made even more special by the presence of members from the Adelaide Priory, further uniting the Order’s community across Australia.
As an ecumenical Order with origins tracing back to the time of the Crusades, the Sovereign Hospitaller Order of St John remains deeply rooted in its founding mission of service. Originally established to care for the sick and poor, its members built hospitals that inspired the title “Hospitallers.”
Today, the Order continues this noble tradition by working tirelessly to support community projects and provide relief to the most vulnerable. Members dedicate themselves to raising funds and giving 100% of the proceeds to nominated causes, ensuring that their efforts directly benefit those in need.
This historic Investiture stands as a testament to the Order’s enduring values of faith, service, and compassion, welcoming twelve new members into its mission to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
