The Sovereign Hospitaller Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, Knights of Malta is proud to recognise the outstanding humanitarian efforts of the Swedish Grand Priory and its partners in supporting the people and animals of Ukraine during this time of conflict and hardship.
A remarkable consignment of 13,500 kilograms of humanitarian aid has successfully travelled more than 2,500 kilometres from Stockholm, Sweden, to Cherkasy, Ukraine, bringing much-needed relief to vulnerable communities affected by the ongoing war.
The shipment, organised through the dedication and generosity of our Swedish colleagues and supporters, included food for homeless and abandoned animals, animal bedding, cages, toys, and essential supplies for shelters caring for countless four-legged victims of the conflict. The aid arrives at a critical time, as organisations on the ground continue to receive daily requests for assistance from occupied territories where the evacuation of animals is often impossible.
In addition to animal welfare supplies, the humanitarian convoy delivered a wide range of urgently needed items for people facing extraordinary challenges. These included bedding, incontinence products, clothing for children and adults, mobility aids, rehabilitation equipment, and medical supplies for hospitals treating wounded civilians and military personnel.
The aid was distributed in partnership with the Charity Organisation “New Renaissance” Foundation, whose volunteers continue to work tirelessly to support internally displaced families, people with disabilities, medical facilities, and animal shelters throughout the region.
Representatives of the charity expressed their deep gratitude, noting that such support provides more than practical assistance. It offers reassurance that the people of Ukraine have not been forgotten and that compassionate individuals across Europe continue to stand beside them during their darkest moments.
This initiative reflects the enduring values of the Order: service to those in need, compassion for the vulnerable, and a commitment to humanitarian action regardless of distance or circumstance. The generosity of the Swedish Grand Priory, its donors, and its partners has brought hope, dignity, and practical support to countless lives, both human and animal.
The Order extends its sincere thanks to all those involved in making this vital mission possible. Through acts of kindness such as these, we continue to demonstrate that faith, charity, and international solidarity remain powerful forces for good in the world.
