A historic moment was celebrated at the Mediterranean Conference Centre (MCC) with the launch of a limited-edition silver coin, marking the 450th anniversary of the founding of the Sacra Infermeria.
Organised in collaboration with the Central Bank of Malta, this special event concluded a series of celebrations honouring the enduring legacy of the Sacra Infermeria – established in 1574 by the Order of St John. Once among Europe’s foremost hospitals, the building now serves as one of Malta’s most esteemed international conference venues, continuing a tradition of service and excellence.
The commemorative coin, of which only 450 have been minted, pays tribute to the spirit of compassion, care, and dedication that has defined the Sacra Infermeria for centuries.
Hon. Ian Borg, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade, Mr Alexander Demarco, Acting Governor of the Central Bank of Malta, as well as Chairman of the Mediterranean Conference Centre Dr Kenneth Spiteri and CEO Mr Nigel Vella participated in a thought provoking ceremony to unveil the coin.
This coin stands as a timeless reminder of the remarkable history and legacy that lives on within the walls of the MCC.
